The Maker Flanders cycling team was established in 2016 by Kern Cycling (apparel) owner Greg Thorne and Flanders Cycles (bikes) owner Paul Redenbach for a number of reasons. Firstly as a way for the team to test the durability and effectiveness of their products during the most extreme race conditions.
Secondly to create a platform and support network for the talented developing riders transitioning from disciplines such as Elite Cyclocross. Our riders test their skills, race in a team environment and have been awarded starting positions in some of Australia’s hardest road & crit races. These include; The Mitchelton Bay Crits (Elite), National Road Championships & Tour of Bright.
It’s common knowledge that cycling and coffee go hand in hand. Maker Fine Coffee was approached to become the naming sponsor of the team due to their active presence in the cycling community, their central location for our riders in Melbourne and because they brew the most damn fine coffee we have ever tasted. Located in North St, Richmond they act as a service course for our riders and provide the fuel to ensure they continue to tear the competitions legs off.
